“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.”
Hebrews 13: 8
The world is spinning. Decisions are coming at us at a rate faster than feels reasonable. Outcomes may be uncertain, arrangements unsettled. The pace at which the proverbial carpet can be yanked from under us, our plans, and our people is overwhelming.
What we thought for sure was certain may not be anymore. Plans made are unreliable at best when the world is spinning, and the constant plan B in the back of our minds feeds a low-level anxiety that just won’t settle at this point. It is easy to grasp at illusions of certainty – relationships, tangible possessions, our own ability to claw our way out of hard spaces.
But all that a spinning, uncertain, unreliable season of life shows us is that certainty in this life isn’t real. It is simply a coping mechanism we cook up to make ourselves sleep better at night. The longer and harder we run to this mirage in the distance, the more crushing the disappointment and disillusionment is when we realize there is nothing there on the horizon to which we can cling.
Praise be to God for His certainty. And reliability. And consistency.
When this fickle, ever-changing, unreliable world is offering another disappointment, remember Who is the opposite of this world. And Who has overcome this world.
Jesus Christ. The same yesterday. And today. And tomorrow. Forever. He is not a fake illusion of hope off in the distance. No, He is real right alongside you. He will not change or pull the rug out from under you.
Cling to Him. He’s there, and He’s unchanging, regardless of all that this spinning, disorienting world can throw our way.

In this time of uncertainty, this is a wonderful, and much needed, reminder. Thank you!

Refocusing our hearts on what is true and certain is the key to walking through these hard times, isn’t it?
