“I believe that I shall look upon the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living! Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord!”
Psalm 27:13-14
Hard seasons are inevitable life, but this one seems to be dragging on . The worst of it may not be behind you. Things look nothing like you thought they would. That job you’re suited for went to someone else. The friendship you thought would stand the test of time has faded. The marriage you’ve clung to and prayed for is ending.
The road of disappointment is marked with sadness, regret, grief, and sometimes ugliness around every corner. When troubles linger, or when the hits just keep piling on, it can feel like we’ve landed in a permanent place of hardness. The depth of hurt and disillusionment can skew our perspective and convince us things will never be good again.
Time and time again we tell ourselves it will get better once this is over. But, as hard choices continue to demand our attention, as hurtful revelations are made, and you take difficult steps forward on a path you didn’t choose, it can feel like evidence that our belief in goodness to come was naïve.
Take heart.
The God who made you loves you. He sees you. And He’s working for your good. Even if it doesn’t feel like it in this moment.
Step back and look for it. Do you see it? God’s goodness is there. Even in the midst of the difficult and disappointing. Take a moment to sit in the truth of His goodness, especially goodness that is surrounded by difficulty.
He has not left you. And He has equipped you with the strength you need to stand firm. He has cultivated in you the courage to keep moving forward. Because of Him, deep down you have the patience to wait on Him.
None of what you are experiencing now is a surprise to God, even when it is the broken and ugly things that break His heart. Because He knew what was coming and because He loves you, He has prepared you for this moment. This hard, difficult moment.
Look for Him. He’s there. Wait for Him. He is trustworthy. He is showing you goodness.
Even now.
