The Lazy Genius Way: Embrace What Matters, Ditch What Doesn’t, and Get Stuff Done by Kendra Adachi – A while back I recommended the Lazy Genius podcast and that led me to read the book. It is fantastic. This one is a well-balanced perspective (i.e. you do not prove your worth with outcomes, appearances, or how well you can throw off the perfect birthday party for your kid). These reminders of truth are then applied through a series of “Lazy Genius Principles” that almost serve as a series of litmus tests for your day to day choices. The freedom to determine what matters most to you and your family in different moments and seasons is like a giant, deep, cleansing breath in the midst of the craziness. On top of these, Kendra is funny, real, and honest. Equal parts encouraging and practical, this one is a book I think I’ll refer back to over and over again in the future.

The 6 Types of Working Genius, Part 1 on the Andy Stanley Leadership Podcast – On this one, Andy features regular guest Pat Lencioni, leadership consultant and author. Pat shares a new model he and his team have developed and it is this. There are six types of “working genius,” the areas were we have varying degrees. natural talent and giftedness. Pat’s model assumes that everyone has two areas of strength, two areas of competency, and two areas of weakness. His approach is simple. Maximize the areas where you have strength…and delegate the functions where you’re weak. This is an really interesting conversation and I’m looking forward to part two.
