November was nuts, but we made it to turkey day thanks in no small part to my latest favorite reads, podcasts, and binge-able Netflix viewing.
Favorite Person of the Hour
Mr. Rogers – I haven’t seen the movie yet, but I plan to load up my tissues and go…maybe alone. There is something about Fred Rogers that has always made me feel simultaneously safe and sad. I think that sadness is nostalgia for a time when my life was so sweet and simple. I read an article this week about Fred Rogers’ faith that made me love him even more. His prayer before each taping apparently was, “Let some word that is heard be thine…” and believed staunchly in sharing the truth that you are loved exactly the way God made you. Great read and even more motivation for me to see the movie. Read the article on CNN.com.
Favorite Podcast Series (again)
Therapy and Theology Podcast is back – The team at Proverbs 31 has added another short series to their library under their Therapy and Theology banner. The first one was outstanding and this one did not disappoint. This is an excellent look at how we balance issues in relationships and in the areas of mental health with both a counseling and theological lens. Highly recommend this series for lots of thoughts on several topics many people may be facing.
Favorite Book on Audible
Refugee by Alan Gratz – My oldest and I recently completed this one on Audible and it was great. The book tells parallel stories of families in three different periods of history. Each is escaping political realities in their home countries and it was an eye opener of the trials of refugees throughout history. Great conversation starter with my 11-year old, so I really liked listening together. You can find the book here.
Favorite on Netflix
The Crown season 3 – It. Is. Back. And I have watched it like it is my job. Already done with the season and waiting for season 4. Love it and also loved learning some UK history about which I was clueless.
