This week was catching up on podcasts from the end of 2020, listening to a new book on Audible while I walk, and trying to keep my eyes open at bedtime to finish what has been a great historical fiction novel.
Podcasts
Brene with David Eagleman on The Inside Story of the Ever-Changing Brain on Unlocking Us with Brene’ Brown – From late last year, this one takes the thought of a growth mindset to a different level. Brene chats with neuroscientist David Eagleman on neuro-plasticity (yes….that’s a thing) and how hard wired (and not) our brains are. This was so interesting and a great reminder on just how much of us can be taught to adapt throughout life.
Books
The Next Right Thing by Emily P. Freeman – This one has been cathartic for me. In a year when overwhelmed is a cliche and uncertainty is ubiquitous, this one was good for my soul. I actually listened to this one on Audible, and the author reads it herself. She has a very calming voice, so it was doubly helpful. Great read (or listen) to kick off the new year.
Two Minute Mornings by Neil Pasricha – I was gifted this for Christmas and it is simple, easy, and focused. Precisely what my mornings need. It calls you to focus on what you’re letting go of each day, what you’re grateful for, and then three things you’ll focus on that day. The simple practice of writing that down daily has been fantastic. I’ve tacked it on to the end of my devotion time each day and I’m loving this new practice.
A Most English Princess by Clare McHugh – If you’re a fan of Masterpiece Theater’s Victoria, you’ll like this one. Focused on Vicky, the second child and oldest daughter of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, this was a good change of pace. Great history baked in as well.
