September was unfairly hot (so much so October better get its act together). In the midst of sweating to almost death, we had some highlights…all of which could be enjoyed in the AC. One kid was in a play at school and one ended up in a walking boot, so we spent a lot of time in the car, juggling homework and dinner in places other than our dining room table, and looking for a little extra pick me up to keep the forward momentum in the midst of crazy.
Favorite Music
Drew Holcomb and the Neighbors – So, I’ve known Ellie Holcomb’s music for some time now. I knew she was married to a guy named Drew and that he had a band (thanks to a live NEEDTOBREATHE album). But, I’d never listened to his music. I realized my own stupidity and got with the program. The new album Dragons is great. Our personal fave is the song Family which my people have fallen in love with. This mama’s fave line is:
Family, on the way to the city
Family, laughing in the rain
Family, it ain’t always pretty
Family, can drive you insane
Family, got the keys to the kingdom
Family, take it a la carte
Family, all four seasons
Family, well bless your heart
Favorite Read
Love Like That, by Dr. Les Parrott – Based on the premise of us being called to be in relationship and to love people the way that Jesus did, Les Parrott has identified five main characteristics of the way that Jesus loved others: being mindful, being approachable, being grace-filled, being bold, and being self-giving. My team is reading this at work and the insight can apply to any type of relationship. Fairly easy read.
Favorite Podcast Episode
Annie Downs with David Platt – If this tend continues, I need a category for Annie’s Best Podcast This Month. This one truly is one of the best in recent months. David Platt is awesome. Listen with something you can write with so you can take notes. You’ll want to.
Favorite New Food Item
Chipotle Carne Asada – Stop the presses. I love my standard order at Chipotle – kids build your own with 2 crunchy tacos, chicken, black beans, and fajita veggies. Yummy, relatively low-cal, and pretty cheap. As of the past two weeks, my standing order for three years has finally had a make over. Carne Asada! Good stuff. Swap it out for the chicken and I think it is one of the best fast-ish food kids meals around.
