Favorite Devotion
“When It Seems Like No One is Listening” by Kelley Brown – Proverbs 31’s First Five app is in week three of a study of the book of Isaiah. The weekend devotion from the second week is fantastic. Kelley Brown does a great job with insight on how Isaiah – one of the most quoted prophets in the New Testament – was pretty much ignored during his life. Definitely a good one to listen to when we’re feeling ignored, defeated, or like we’re on a different page than everyone else.
Favorite Book
White Fragility: Why is it so hard for white people to talk about racism – Yep. It is just as uncomfortable as the title, but that discomfort is exactly where my heart has needed to sit for a bit. This book is changing the way I view my community and I’m grateful for that altered perspective.
Favorite Song
“Saint Honesty” by Sara Bareilles – I love her voice, so that’s a plus. But, I’ve learned that as a 3 on the enneagram, I really, really, really, really crave honesty from the people in my life. I love this one because it speaks in a beautiful way to the often non-beautiful moments in relationship when it is time to be (sometimes painfully) truthful.
Favorite TV
Hallmark Channel Countdown to Christmas – Bring on the random small towns that FedEx and airplanes can’t get to easily; the female doctors, vets, teachers, and marketing executives who land in these towns; and of course the handsome single men who also end up in these towns. Throw in some snow (regardless of latitude), overly decorated towns, Christmas festivals, and the inevitable snow storm, broken down car, or old high school rivalry and you’ve got a recipe for sitting down for one movie to then look up hours (ehhhh…days) later to realize one movie turned into five. Heaven help.
