This week, I’m looking back on books from 2020 that I loved and a podcast from the end of 2020 with two of my favorites.
Books
The Guardians by John Grisham – I have been a Grisham fan for a long time and this is one of his absolute bests. Based on a true story, this novel is about an innocence project-type organization working to vindicate people wrongly convicted. Many are on death row and it is a touching story of a life changed, working tirelessly for what is right even when it is hard and not very profitable, and advocating for our fellow man.
The Spy and the Traitor : The Greatest Espionage Story of the Cold War by Ben Mcintyre – This one is full of spy craft, international diplomacy, and the Cold War. The best part? It is a true story. This is the incredible story of one of the highest value assets ever turned by the West. The story of a KGB agent turned double agent by MI6, there is great insight into just how crazy things were in the Cold War and some of the shockingly basic things it took to end it. If you have a history buff in your life, this one makes a great gift.
Podcasts
Lysa TerKeurst on That Sounds Fun with Annie F. Downs – Come on. Two of my faves. This one actually aired back in November and I’m still percalating on it. So very, very good. In November, Lysa was promoting her new book, Forgiving What You Can’t Forget and this chat is so very insightful and honest. Highly recommend this one…along with a notebook nearby so you can take notes.
