When My “Heritage” is Growing Up

Children are a heritage from the Lord.

I am fully in the season of middle school with one and in the waning days of elementary school with the other. Next year, I will be a 100% middle school parent (😳), so when they both want to have friends over, this mama says bring it on and how many chocolate chips do you want in your waffles? More on top? Sure. You want to add syrup? Go for it, you wise young people. Eat all the sugary things.

I’m eating up my “heritage from the Lord” in what feels like the end of the season of littles. Thankful for their sweet friends. Thankful they want to expose their mother to their people. And thankful for their sweet souls that are both still a touch immature in the best ways possible (have I mentioned the attempts at body humor jokes with each other and Alexa?!? Thanks, Amazon…).

Weekends like this make me loosen my terrified grip on the little years a bit and look forward to the years of hormones, social awkwardness, and figuring themselves out. Looks like a lot of jokes about body functions, giggles, loud singing, an over abundance of talking, and praying hard is before us.
